Automation IG is pleased to announce the successful installation of a SuperCell at one of the premiere motorcycle manufacturers in the USA. The cell utilizes several new technologies developed by Automation IG in Chattanooga to push manufacturing to it's current limit.
Working closely with ABB Robotic Systems and Miller Welding, Automation IG successfully built one of the most complex robotic installations in existance. 11 robots work together in close quarters to produce key components of motorcycle frames. Only 2 operators are required to operate the cell and keep 4 welding robots almost completely utilized.
As with all Automation IG systems, the attention to detail was key in executing a world class robotic systems installation. Fume hoods automatically engage and disengage in sync with welding to keep the air clean and power usage low. Special request-to-enter boxes allow maintenance to support the equipment with minimal downtime and an instant return to production. Special robots actually retrieve finished parts from the tools and intelligently utilize a cooling rack to allow freshly welded parts to cool before they are automatically loaded into a machining center and finally put onto one of two conveyors to carry parts to paint. This eased the load on operators to unload hot, heavy parts from the cell giving them more time to load parts and keep the cell going.
Automation IG is continuing its on-site support to train operators and maintenance personnel for full production. The new SuperCell provides enough parts to keep up with 8 other cells welding other components, and the entire assembly line already producing record numbers of motorcycles.
